About the Talk
Sam Falls creates sculptures, fabric works, and paintings that combine his interest in the history of minimalist sculpture with an experimentation of process and materials. In much of his work, Falls has investigated deterioration and photographic exposure, focusing on the long-term effects of sunlight, rain, and time on materials like paper, steel, painted aluminum, and cloth. Falls’ process-based practice often incorporates a relationship to the natural environment, and in recent years, the artist has produced numerous works for outdoor exhibition and public space. On the occasion of his current outdoor exhibition, Light Over Time, on view through May 2015 at MetroTech Commons in Downtown Brooklyn, Falls will speak about his production process with a particular focus on working in the public realm.
The Public Art Fund Talks at The New School are organized by the Public Art Fund in collaboration with the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School.
This program is made possible in part by Con Edison and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
