Fall 2010 Talks
This fall, the Public Art Fund Talks series presents three artists who all transform the conventional lecture into a unique work of art. Ryan Gander presents one of his celebrated Loose Associations performances, a narrated PowerPoint presentation stringing together images, memories, facts, and histories; in his New York debut, Simon Fujiwara, using live video and dialogue, loosely retells his parents’ life as erotic fiction in Welcome to the Hotel Munber; and Pawel Althamer creates a live sculpture workshop with the audience, extending the collaborative approach that has defined much of his work. These hybrid performance-lectures provide a window into each artist’s practice and present viewers with a new way of experiencing their art.

Ryan Gander’s talk is presented in conjunction with The Happy Prince, a new sculpture commissioned by the Public Art Fund and inspired by Oscar Wilde’s beloved children’s story. The work transforms the climactic final scene of the fallen statue into a lyrical sculpture reminiscent of a classical ruin.
