About the Exhibition
Inspired by Betty Crocker’s proclamation that “pies are distinctly American,” Anissa Mack’s Pies for a Passerby is an interactive installation that brings a quaint cottage to the bustling plaza of the Brooklyn Public Library. Mack (b.1970, USA) bakes fresh apple pies from scratch inside the tiny cottage —complete with all of the necessary kitchen tools, including an oven—and engages viewers in conversation while she rolls pie crusts, slices apples and mixes ingredients. Mack sets the pies to cool on the windowsill, tempting passersby to “steal” the freshly baked apple pie.
