Maria Nordman: Untitled

About the Exhibition

Maria Nordman’s intent with this project is to create an alternative to the idea of public art as monument to a permanent fixture in the landscape. Nordman (b.1943, Gorlitz, Germany) intends the work to be a temporary, situational structure in a space that has a strongly identified public presence and history. Sited at the entrance to Central Park, the structure creates a situation that mediates between public and private experience, just as the park itself sets up a more private experience than the street, although both are intrinsically public places.
