Public Art Fund is working with Fatimah Tuggar to present Transient Transfer; a selection of unique imagery displayed on bus shelters along the Grand Concourse in the Bronx. Collaborating with The Bronx Museum of the Arts, Tuggar photographed everyday sights from the streets of the Bronx, and is giving the public the opportunity to create collages with these images, using an interactive installation displayed in the lobby of the Museum and through the Museum's website. Tuggar will then select collages created by the public to be displayed on a series of bus shelters, two collages per bus shelter. In this respect, Transient Transfer is artwork that comes full circle — images are taken from the streets and reconfigured at the Bronx Museum, after which Public Art Fund extends them back into the streets where they become a new part of the Bronx landscape. Fatimah Tuggar lives and works in the United States and West Africa and is currently a research fellow at Duke University's Franklin Institute. She is perhaps best known for her collage work exploring notions of technology, ethnicity, and daily life. She has shown internationally in venues including the Bamako Biennale, Mali; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; Oi Futuro, Rio de Janeiro; and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Transient Transfer will be displayed at bus shelters along the Grand Concourse, between E 159 and E 161 Street; E 165 and E 166 Street (2 displayed at this location); McClellan Street and Tudor Place; E 167 and Tudor Place; E Clarke and 169 Street; and E 170 and E 171 Streets from October 15-November 9, 2008. Subways: B, D, 4 to 161 St-Yankee Stadium, 167th Street or 170th Street Stations. This work is free to the public and is on view daily.
